D&AD Awards Judging 2009

So the brief comes in, "bloody hell it's D&AD, what an honour, it'd be great to do some work for the effective 'charity for design'. Oh, it's for the Awards judging". Then you can insert your cliché here: the penny dropped; things hit home; we came back to Earth with a bang; we absolutely shi… OK, I think you get it. It dawned on us that 300 of the absolute best designers from the world over would be seeing our work whilst judging one of the most prestigious design awards competition there is. Gulp.
Well, we took a good run at it.
Believing in simplicity, we boiled down to the essence of passing judgement on anything. What you get is it is or it isn't. Whatever that is is down to the question but effectively this is true. Yes or No. Guilty or Innocent. Tea or Coffee. We let this idea inform the concept of the communication so the posters and information were split each displaying relative messages to their positioning.
And to add to it, we were in luck that we could embellish the concept further with a bit of hard fact—every designers' dream.
Traditionally, judging of the Professional Awards was separate to the Student Awards, but aha, not this year. This year, they are bundled together, and at the same time. Two things, opposite, yet somewhat related. Serendipity is a lovely thing don't you think?
